Evacuations have been ordered on campuses in North Dakota and Texas due to bomb threats.
The University of Texas in Austin issued an alert on its website Friday morning ordering an evacuation "due to threats on campus."? Later, the school canceled classes for the remainder of the day.
North Dakota State University in Fargo issued a statement shortly before 10 a.m. Friday telling all employees and students to leave campus within a half-hour because of a bomb threat. No other details were given.
An alert posted on the website of Valparaiso University in Indiana says a graffiti message alludes that a dangerous incident would take place during chapel break period Friday.
University of Texas director of communications Rhonda Weldon says the university received a call about 8:35 a.m. from a man with a Middle Eastern accent claiming to be with al-Qaida. The man said he had placed bombs all over the campus that would go off in 90 minutes.
Wheldon says all the buildings were evacuated at 9:50 a.m. as a precaution.
Classes were canceled for the remainder of the day, and students were allowed to reenter buildings at noon.
She says no bombs have been found.
It's unclear whether the three threats are related.
