Romney is criticized by some for his comment in the debate last night about withdrawing money from funding PBS. If you look at the facts it makes sense and it is ridiculous for Laura Clawson to assume that Romney's answer to the deficit is to fire Big Bird. Big Bird on welfare is one of the many issues that needs addressing. It's amazing how people, especially liberals will take one piece of a puzzle and try to stretch it into the entire puzzle. Laura further criticized Romney by saying "Romney won't tell voters his tax plan, but he'll stop Big Bird from sucking on the government teat." Last night, during the debate was not the time to lay out the specifics of a tax plan - especially one that includes lots of little cuts that add up to the big numbers - there simply wasn't enough time.
Big Bird is a multi-million dollar business, not to mention the income from shows other than Sesame Street. With Big Bird on welfare even though it brings in millions of dollars every year is disgraceful. America is having to go to China to borrow money to hand out to millionaires? It's time America got someone in a leadership position that has some common sense. Romney has the common sense to make the changes that are long over due.

Big Bird isn't going anywhere without the funding from the government. According to Quora, PBS receives approximately $300 million dollars from the government or approximately 12% of its budget. It's cuts like these that are long over due that will make the difference. The smaller items that should be cut are often overlooked because they don't amount to much and takes more time to find them. Looking at a budget in this manner makes sense, its how Americans do it on a daily basis. When someone loses a job or takes a pay cut people cut out the extras first. There's no need to foreclose your house when you can make up the difference by eating at home instead of eating out, buying store brand instead of name brand and drop your cable television. There is no reason the government shouldn't do the same. Laura states that "It may have been the one thing he got specific about in the debate, but it's not a real answer." It's sad that she can't see the forest for the trees.
