Carrier EE said today it has switched on the network in 13 more towns and cities to hit the 50% population coverage mark five months after the network went live. The company has previously said its network rollout would reach 55% of the population by June.

Sony KDL-32R400A

The Sony 32R400A is an LED-backlit 720p set that doesn't try to be anything other than a simple 32-inch HDTV. It doesn't have Web apps, it doesn't have 3D, and it doesn't have any other functions that make it useable without plugging in a cable, antenna, or Blu-ray player. Still, this $399.99 (direct) HDTV is worth considering if you're looking for a smaller screen for a guest bedroom, office, or kitchen, and are on a strict budget. Even so, you won't get as good picture quality as with our Editors' Choice budget set, the 42-inch RCA LED42C45RQ.?

Design
Very plain looking, visually, the 32R400A is little more than a 32-inch monitor with HDMI ports. Its bezel is flat and black, only punctuated by a Sony logo and a power light. Its 3-inch-thick frame is a bit chunky compared with larger budget HDTVs like the Westinghouse UW40T2BW, despite its LED backlighting. It sits on a rectangular plastic base that keeps the screen relatively low and very stable, but doesn't allow any pivoting adjustment.

A few basic control buttons are tucked behind the right edge of the screen, while an MHL-equipped HDMI port and a USB port sit opposite behind the left side of the screen. An additional HDMI port, along with component and composite hybrid video inputs, a 3.5mm audio output, a digital audio output, and a coaxial connector for cable or antenna can be found on the back of the screen. They're slightly awkwardly placed if you want to mount the set on a wall.

The 6.2-inch remote is small, flat, and simple. The buttons aren't backlit, and are clustered together fairly closely, so entering numbers blindly takes some practice. On the other hand, the direction pad and Volume and Channel buttons are large and distinct enough to find easily with your thumb.

Performance
We evaluate HDTVs using a Klein K10-A Colorimeter, DisplayMate test patterns, and SpectraCal's CalMAN 5 diagnostic software. According to our tests, the 32R400A produces a respectable picture, albeit one that doesn't excel at brightness, black level, or color. After basic calibration with power saving features disabled, the 32R400A produced a peak brightness of 192.83 cd/m² and a black level of 0.1 cd/m² for an underwhelming contrast ratio of 1,923:1. As far as color accuracy, greens lean more towards blue than they should, and reds appear darker than ideal, as the CIE color comparison chart below shows. (The boxes represent the ideal values for the colors, while the dots indicate the measured values.) To compare, the $360, 40-inch TCL LE40FHDE3000 boasts a higher contrast ratio and black level of 4,821:1 and 0.06 cd/m² respectively, and the Toshiba 32L2200U puts out a peak brightness of 303.81 cd/m², but has a black level of 0.14 cd/m². Color skewing is worse on the TCL set, however.

This is only a 720p screen, so you're not getting full 1080p HD resolution, but for its small size that's not a major flaw. Washed out shadow and highlight details and muddled greens are the biggest problems from which the 32R400A suffers. Black Swan on Blu-ray looked a bit faded and cloudy, with the deep and textured darks not showing clearly on the screen. In Piranha on Blu-ray, the very sunny party scenes looked blown out, and the greens of plants and blue-green of the water looked undersaturated. Nothing is skewed horribly to the point of yellow or green skin, but they colors don't have any sense of "pop," and the mediocre contrast ratio makes both shadows and highlights feel flat. Viewing angles are excellent, though, with the picture becoming only slightly pale when viewed from the far sides, matching Sony's claim of an 178-degree range.

As a 32-inch LED-backlit screen, the 32R400A is a modest energy user. It consumes 38 watts under normal use with power saving features turned off, and 33 watts with power saving set to low. Higher power saving features made the screen too dark to watch comfortably. The same-size Toshiba 32L2200U hits the middle ground between the two settings by consuming 35 watts, and the larger TCL 40-inch LE40FHDE3000 uses 50 watts.

The Sony 32R400A is a capable low-priced set that comes with the same flaws you get with many other budget TVs: a lack of features and middling picture quality. The colors, despite looking undersaturated, are relatively accurate compared with some other budget models. However, you can get an overall better (and larger) picture for less with the $360 40-inch TCL LE40FHDE3000. And the 42-inch RCA LED42C45RQ serves up superior picture quality for the price, so it's our Editors' Choice for under-$500 HDTVs.

North Korea to cut all channels with South as "war may break out any time"

SEOUL (Reuters) - Reclusive North Korea is to cut the last channel of communications with the South because war could break out at "any moment", it said on Wednesday, days of after warning the United States and South Korea of nuclear attack.

The move is the latest in a series of bellicose threats from North Korea in response to new U.N. sanctions imposed after its third nuclear test in February and to "hostile" military drills under way joining the United States and South Korea.

The North has already stopped responding to calls on the hotline to the U.S. military that supervises the heavily armed Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and the Red Cross line that has been used by the governments of both sides.

"Under the situation where a war may break out at any moment, there is no need to keep north-south military communications which were laid between the militaries of both sides," the North's KCNA news agency quoted a military spokesman as saying.

"There do not exist any dialogue channel and communications means between the DPRK and the U.S. and between the north and the south."

The Pentagon condemned the latest escalation in North Korean rhetoric, with spokesman George Little calling Pyongyang's declaration "yet another provocative and unconstructive step."

The U.S. military announced on March 15 it was bolstering missile defenses in response to threats from the North, including a threat to conduct a preemptive nuclear strike against the United States.

Despite the shrill rhetoric, few believe North Korea, formally known as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), will risk starting a full-out war.

North and South Korea are still technically at war anyway after their 1950-53 civil conflict ended with an armistice, not a treaty, which the North says it has since torn to pieces.

The "dialogue channel" is used on a daily basis to process South Koreans who work in the Kaesong industrial project where 123 South Korean firms employ more than 50,000 North Koreans to make household goods.

About 120 South Koreans are stationed at Kaesong at any one time on average.

It is the last remaining joint project in operation between the two Koreas after South Korea cut off most aid and trade in response to Pyongyang's shooting of a South Korean tourist and the sinking of a South Korean naval vessel blamed on the North.

Kaesong is one of North Korea's few hard currency earners, producing $2 billion a year in trade with the South, and Pyongyang is unlikely to close it except as a last resort.

Five Favorite Films with Derek Cianfrance

Derek Cianfrance's 2010 drama Blue Valentine earned strong reviews and confirmed stars Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling as among the best actors of their generation. For his follow-up, the filmmaker has again enlisted Gosling, together with Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes, as part of an ambitious, three-part drama on the legacy of troubled fathers and sons. It's called The Place Beyond the Pines, and it opens in select theaters across the country this week. Here, we talk with Cianfrance about his favorite movies.

GoodFellas

(Martin Scorsese, 1990; 97% Tomatometer)

First one I'd say is GoodFellas. When I was a teenager I slept underneath a picture of Martin Scorsese. I think GoodFellas is just a perfect film. From an efficiency of storytelling standpoint, from an entertainment standpoint, from a performance standpoint, from a use of music standpoint, from a cinematography and editing standpoint -- to me it's just a perfect movie. That's a movie I saw when I was 16 years old, when I watched it in a theater 30 times. A perfect movie.

You must have been happy to have Ray Liotta in The Place Beyond the Pines.

I was. When I first met with my co-writer, Ben Coccio, I found out that his favorite movie was GoodFellas, too -- so we said, "Hey, why don't we write a movie together and let's write a role for Ray Liotta in it." And then five years later there I was sitting in an audition room with Ray Liotta -- it was like, you know, dreams really do come true.

Did you tell him how many times you saw his movie?

Yeah. And he said, "Oh, I only saw it once." [Laughs] Someday, I think they're gonna carve his face into a mountaintop.

Next choice I'd say would be The Gospel According to St. Matthew, by Pasolini. I saw that movie for the first time when I was 23 years old. I'd gone to church every Sunday and catechism every week for my whole childhood, but I never paid attention; I was always daydreaming in church -- and all of a sudden I went to go see this movie, and I knew everything in the movie. I guess all of my Catholic upbringing I had absorbed through some sort of osmosis. Here was this movie which was this Biblical story which was told so beautifully: the cinema was so simple and so beautiful. He had, you know, Odetta playing "Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child" as the three wise men found Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus. It was, you know... I started sweating while I was watching the movie. The whole left side of my body went numb while I was watching, and I was sure that I was having a heart attack. It was all that I could do -- you know, I didn't want to because it was the greatest movie I'd ever seen -- but it was all I could do to crawl out of the movie theater and knock on the projectionist's door and ask him if I could call my girlfriend. I called my girlfriend and told her I thought I was dying, 'cause I was seeing the greatest movie I'd ever seen, and she showed up. I remember it had been snowing in Colorado and she had all this dirty snow on the roof of her car and I was eating all this dirty snow because my mouth was just parched. And I remember being in the emergency room and thinking that when the doctor walks through, if he looked like Jesus from The Gospel According to St. Matthew, I knew that meant I was dead. Fortunately the guy didn't look anything like Jesus.

Gimme Shelter (Albert Maysles, David Maysles, Charlotte Zwerin, 1970; 100% Tomatometer)

Another one of my five favorite films would be Gimme Shelter, by the Maysles brothers. I spent many years making documentary films between my first film and my second film, Blue Valentine, and I learned to really embrace, and be humbled by life, and by telling a story where you're telling someone else's story. And there's something about the Maysles brothers, and especially that movie, where they were able to witness these moments. Especially with Gimme Shelter, you know, these moments of American history -- this concert at Altamont that turned into kind of the bad trip of Woodstock. And I love how they frame it with the band, the Stones, watching the footage, watching their memories; this document, this witness to this incredible time in American life -- and this crime, this real crime in America. Also, for nothing else than the moment where Mick Jagger has to watch Tina Turner. Again, like watching the Scorsese movie -- and the Pasolini movie -- their use of music, you know, is to watch a real rock and roll movie in the theater, with that sound. It's great.

Contempt

(Jean-Luc Godard, 1963; 93% Tomatometer)

Next one would be Contempt by Godard. The first time I ever saw it, on a VHS copy 25 years ago, I thought it was the worst movie I'd ever seen. Actually, every Godard film I've ever seen I've hated the first time. But it got re-released a number of years back and I was in New York and saw it at the Film Forum, and I felt like I was seeing Halley's Comet, you know -- I couldn't believe how wrong I was; how much I'd despised this film the first time I saw it and how much my second viewing was completely the polar opposite reaction. I think the performances, from Bardot and Piccoli to Jack Palance, to, you know, Cotard's photography and Delerue's amazing repetitive score... to me it's one of those Godard movies where it's a perfect balance between heart and mind, you know? Oftentimes his films are extremely heavy, but this film was not only heavy -- you could forever gaze into it on repeated viewings, as it appeals to your intelligence -- but it also appealed to your soul. It was a huge, huge inspiration for Blue Valentine, especially the middle section of Contempt, where it feels like this 45-minute sequence where this couple is in their apartment.

The last film I would say -- and I could pick many of his films, but I will choose Woman Under the Influence, by Cassavetes. I could also have said Faces, or I could have said The Killing of a Chinese Bookie, or Husbands, or Minnie and Moskowitz, or I could have said Love Streams, but -- today it will be Woman Under the Influence. I love the structure of it; its two-part structure -- it really feels like a film in two movements. Arguably the two greatest performances of all time, between Peter Falk and Gena Rowlands. You know, it's a home movie, and everything I've been trying to make are home movies -- movies that take place inside the house and the family. I love the spirit of Cassavetes' films, in that he's casting his wife and his best friend in the roles, and his mother and her mother are in it, and the kids. To me it's a movie that changes, too, throughtout the course of my life. I know the movie isn't changing, I'm changing; but when I watch it the movie seems to shape-shift. I remember the first time I ever saw it I thought she was crazy; I remember on the 50th time I watched it I thought she was the only sane person in the movie and everyone else was crazy. I love that about movies that are made with a certain openness -- that the audience can kind of participate in the imagination of the characters, you know; of their lives and of the story.

iFixit breaks open an HTC One, literally

Considering its sleek, primarily aluminum construction we never thought the HTC One was going be easy to crack open. But, it seems not even iFixit was completely prepared for the challenge of picking one apart. Since there are no screws used in the construction of the body, the fearless hackers needed to turn to a heat gun, a suction cup and a metal spudger to gain access to the internals. Underneath the swaths of aluminum and glass it turns out most of the components are covered in foil-like copper shielding that is quite difficult to deal with. There are a few screws inside, however, like the pair of fasteners that connect the 2,300mAh battery's cable to the motherboard. In the end, iFixit handed the One its namesake on the repairability scale -- meaning this sucker is practically impossible to pull apart and reassemble. Reuters: Wal-Mart looking into crowd-sourcing online delivery

Walmart is considering the slightly insane sounding idea of using its in-store customers to deliver online orders to help it compete with bricks and mortar-less competitors like Amazon, according to Reuters. The big box outfit currently ships internet purchases from just 25 of its stores using the likes of FedEx to handle delivery, but plans to drastically increase that number going forward. In theory, customers could sign up for the chore and drop packages off to customers who are on their route home in exchange for a discount. CEO Joel Anderson he could "see a path to where this is crowd-sourced," adding that "this is at the brain-storming stage, but it's possible in a year or two." Naturally, there's a gauntlet of insurance, theft, fraud and legal issues Walmart would need to run first -- along with the slightly skeevy idea of having a random stranger show up with your packages.

In general, asbestos is just a unusual kind of cancer. Several types of mesothelioma are distinguished between by where in actuality the cancer is growing. Pleural mesothelioma, the most frequent, accounting for 75% of mesothelioma cases, is where cancerous cells develop on the lining of the lungs. The next most frequent form of mesothelioma is peritoneal mesothelioma and this is where cancerous cells grow on the peritoneum which can be the filling of the stomach. Pericardial mesothelioma, minimal common significant type of mesothelioma, makes up roughly 5% of all mesothelioma cases. That is where malignant cancer cells grow on the liner of one?s heart.

All three of these kinds of mesothelioma are caused by asbestos. Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous mineral that was discovered round the 1860s. Due to its extremely of use property of being fireproof, asbestos was used greatly in building in the 1940s, 1930s and 1920s. It had been not until the early 1960s when the severe health hazards that asbestos causes were discovered, that asbestos stopped getting used. When subjected to asbestos with inadequate protection an individual can breathe small asbestos fibers which are suspended in the air. Until they become set in the coating of the lungs these fibers pass in to the breathing. As time passes, a build up of these asbestos fibers in the lungs could cause pleural mesothelioma. Asbestos fibres may also go into the lymphatic system and be transferred to both the coating of the abdomen or the tissue surrounding the heart. This can cause either peritoneal mesothelioma or pericardial mesothelioma.

In terms of symptoms, the three main types of mesothelioma have some symptoms in common together. These signs are typical of most three types: chest suffering, shortness of breath, coughing, coughing up blood, vomiting, sickness, weight loss and loss of appetite. Yet another sign of pericardial asbestos is shivers.

There are a few solutions for many kinds of mesothelioma but none of those have a high success rate. The effectiveness of the treatment depends upon how early and how strongly the cancer is treated. If the malignant cells are treated when they have fully matured and developed then it?s unlikely that treatment options will undoubtedly be effective. Treatment options include chemotherapy which is the use of drugs to kill the cancer, radiation therapy which uses a radiation dosage to kill off malignant cells and surgery which attempts to achieve long term control within the cancer by eliminating a sizable portion of malignant cells. These treatments may be combined in the shape of combined therapy. click

Forest elephants in serious decline

Forest elephant numbers have decreased by 62% across Central Africa over the last 10 years, according to a study.

The analysis confirmed fears that African forest elephants (Loxodonta cyclotis) are heading for extinction, possibly within the next decade.

Conservationists said "effective, rapid, multi-level action is imperative" in order to save the elephants.

They are concerned the forest elephants are being killed for their ivory.

Results of the study, undertaken by researchers from the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and several other conservation organisations, are published in the scientific journal PLoS One.

Over 60 co-authors contributed to the study, which was led by Dr Fiona Maisels, a WCS conservation scientist from the School of Natural Sciences, University of Stirling, and Dr Samantha Strindberg, also a WCS conservation scientist.

"Although we were expecting to see these results, we were horrified that the decline over the period of a mere decade was over 60%," Dr Maisels told BBC Nature.

Findings also indicated that large areas where the elephants ranged just 10 years ago now have very few elephants remaining.

Data drive

Scientists surveyed forests in Cameroon, Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Gabon and the Republic of Congo.

Dr Maisels said survey teams spent "91,600 person-days... walking over 8,000 miles (12,875km)" to compile the largest amount of African forest elephant data ever collected.

"For elephants, we can get a standardised measure of their abundance using their dung piles. There were 11,000 dung piles in our dataset," said Dr Maisels.

She said the teams also recorded important "human signs" such as snares and bullet casings during the field missions from 2002 to 2011.

The results confirmed what scientists already suspected.

"Forest elephants were increasingly uncommon in places with high human density, high levels of infrastructure such as roads, high hunting intensity, and poor governance - indicated by levels of corruption and absence of law enforcement," commented Dr Maisels.

"We were also shocked to see that huge parts of the reasonably intact African forests have lost most of their elephants."

The bigger picture

Conservationists suggest that almost one-third of the land where African forest elephants were living 10 years ago has become dangerous for animals, since poachers can access these areas using road networks meant for logging.

The paper has been released to coincide with the 2013 Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), taking place in Bangkok from 3-14 March.

Dr Maisels explained that research from CITES' Monitoring the Illegal Killing of Elephants (MIKE) programme, has shown that the increase in poaching levels across Africa strongly correlates with trends in consumer demand in the Far East.

Thailand's prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra has already agreed at this year's CITES convention that she will amend Thai laws to ban the legal trade in ivory.

Now conservationists are calling for immediate action in order to protect the remaining forest elephant populations.

"The WCS is advising that CITES review the enforcement gaps and needs - at all points in the trade chain from the field to the marketplace - that have led to the failure of the current ivory trade regulation system," Dr Maisels said.

"Reducing chronic corruption and improving poor law enforcement, which facilitate poaching and trade, are crucial. It is also vital to improve control of import and sales of wildlife goods by the recipient and transit countries of illegal ivory, especially in Asia," she continued.

"The recipient nations, with the international community, should invest heavily in public education and outreach to inform consumers of the ramifications of the ivory trade," Dr Maisels concluded.

I have come to realize I may be gay, due to gay thoughts and a little bit of physical arousal around guys. Not mental though I don't get horny, but physically I am slightly aroused, but that may change over time.

I refuse to live in denial so I am going to try my hardest to accept the feelings and make them feel good. Id like to be able to say I'm a proud gay, or bi, man. At my age in college being tied down by a wife and kids doesn't sound so fun, so i wouldn't want to live a lie just to have a "normal" life.

I definitely have a stronger pull towards women atm, I always have, and am physically and mentally aroused by them. I always notice girls first, I cant help it, but if I see and extremely muscular shirtless guy I will also notice them.

Right now I want to date a girl, but my fear is that I will not be able to make her happy. My fear is is that I will realize I do not want a relationship with a girl and break her heart, or will not be good at sex, or will realize I wont enjoy it.

But then I think if that happens I will decide to try men out, and the same will happen.

following what my heart says doesn't work so well due to the fact I have severe anxiety issues. I dont really know what is real desire and what isn't.

So if you are gay/bi how do you go about relationships with men/women if your not sure which one you really desire? Ive read trying one then the other makes it worse, so how do I approach this situation?

GENEVA (AP) ? Hybrids aren't just for fuel economy any more.

Ferrari and McLaren both on Tuesday unveiled sleek hybrid supercars sculpted from carbon fiber at the Geneva Motor Show.

"LaFerrari" is the name of the new special edition Ferrari.

"Owners say they have a Ferrari," Chairman Luca di Montezemolo said. "This is THE Ferrari."

Montezemolo said the electric engine has a performance appeal that is proving a draw to Ferrari owners.

Only 499 of the models will be built ? and some 700 people, many of them Ferrari owners already, have registered interest, requiring a selection process for the future owners. The price tag: ?490,000 ($639,000).
