John Niyo's postcard from London: Rain and sun and rain ... it's the UK

I'm truly havin' a laugh ? as British comedian Ricky Gervais would say ? watching the weather every morning on the BBC in London.

Here's how it works: They show the map of the United Kingdom, and as they scroll up and over and back down, from Ireland to Northern Ireland to Scotland and finally to the London area, the weatherman rambles on about "periods of sun" and "scattered showers" while providing no discernible timetable for either.

It has been the same exact forecast every day for the last week, as best I can tell.

But the best part is the guy sounds wholly unconcerned about any of it, unlike the dramatic TV weather back home. It's as if this fellow knows he's wasting his time, and yours. This is an island in the ocean at the mercy of the jet stream, after all.

And, everyone in London with half a brain is going to head outside with sunglasses, an umbrella and a coat, expecting to use any of the three ? or all of them ? at a moment's notice.
